Required Viewing Movies: Review

Strengths

Pretty Woman is a charming and entertaining romantic comedy.

The film’s success hinges on the undeniable chemistry between Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Roberts is captivating as Vivian, infusing the character with humor, vulnerability, and a surprising amount of strength.

The film’s fantasy elements and rags-to-riches storyline provide a feel-good escape, offering a Cinderella story for the modern age.

The supporting cast adds humor and warmth to the narrative.

Weaknesses

The film’s portrayal of prostitution can be seen as simplistic and lacking nuance.

The resolution relies heavily on the trope of the wealthy prince rescuing the damsel in distress.

The film’s humor can be dated at times, with some stereotypical characters and situations.

Why Pretty Woman is Required Viewing

Pretty Woman may not be a perfect film, but it remains an enjoyable and entertaining watch. The film’s central performances and classic fairytale narrative make it a perfect choice for a date night. However, viewers should be aware of the potentially dated elements and the somewhat sanitized portrayal of certain themes before diving in.
