Required Viewing Movies (RQV): REVIEW
Strengths
“Fatal Attraction” is a suspenseful and gripping thriller.
The film benefits from exceptional performances, with Michael Douglas portraying a man caught in a moral dilemma and Glenn Close delivering a chilling portrayal of a dangerously obsessed woman.
The film raises interesting questions about fidelity, boundaries, and the potential for seemingly harmless encounters to spiral out of control.
The erotic thriller elements add a layer of tension and unease to the narrative.
Weaknesses
The film’s portrayal of Alex Forrest has been criticized for perpetuating negative stereotypes of career women and single mothers.
The ending, while suspenseful, might feel like a cop-out for some viewers, relying on a trope of the “hysterical woman.”
The graphic violence and sexual content may not be suitable for all audiences.
Why Fatal Attraction is Required Viewing
“Fatal Attraction” remains a culturally significant film. It’s a suspenseful exploration of infidelity and obsession, fueled by strong performances and a taut script. However, viewers should be aware of the potentially dated gender portrayals and the graphic content before diving in.
