Required Viewing Movies (RQV): REVIEW
Strengths
“Beauty and the Beast” (2017) is a visually stunning live-action adaptation of the Disney animated classic.
The production design is lavish, bringing the enchanted castle and its inhabitants to life in rich detail.
The film boasts a talented cast, with Emma Watson delivering a strong performance as the intelligent and compassionate Belle.
The musical numbers are well-choreographed and remain faithful to the beloved songs from the original film.
Weaknesses
The film’s plot stays very close to the 1991 animated version, offering little in the way of originality for viewers familiar with the story.
Some of the new character motivations and backstories feel underdeveloped.
The live-action format makes some fantastical elements from the animation feel less believable.
Why Beauty and the Beast is Required Viewing
“Beauty and the Beast” (2017) is a charming and entertaining film that stays true to the magic of the original. The dazzling visuals, familiar songs, and positive message about looking beyond appearances make it a delightful choice for a family movie night.
However, those seeking a more surprising or inventive take on the classic story might be left wanting.
