Required Viewing Movies: Review

Strengths

Steve Martin brings his signature physical comedy to the role of Clouseau, with pratfalls, misunderstandings, and mangled pronunciations driving many of the film’s funniest moments.

The supporting cast is also strong, with Kevin Kline playing the exasperated Dreyfus perfectly, and Jean Reno offering a stoic counterpoint as Clouseau’s partner.

The movie cleverly incorporates modern references and pop culture gags, keeping the humor feeling fresh.

Weaknesses

While the slapstick is funny at times, it can feel repetitive, and the reliance on physical humor may not resonate with everyone.

The plot itself is fairly thin and predictable, serving mainly as a framework for Clouseau’s antics.

Comparisons to Peter Sellers’ iconic portrayal of Clouseau are inevitable, and Steve Martin’s interpretation, while energetic, doesn’t quite capture the same comedic depth.

Why The Pink Panther is Required Viewing

The Pink Panther” is a perfectly serviceable comedy, offering laughs and light entertainment. However, it doesn’t quite reach the heights of the classic Pink Panther films.

If you’re looking for a silly, slapstick comedy with a recognizable star, this is a good choice.
